10 years of America losing it.

It's fascinating watching it. It's like these stories of falling celebrities Sheen, Spears, Lohan...

THPS2 soundtrack

I found the Tony Hawk's pro skater soundtrack in an old CD box today, so I was quite happy to listen to it again.
That was a very good game with some great songs, no doubt about it. Well, I heard somewhere that music is leading cause of nostalgia. That seems true enough.

BlitzRCWorks BZ-22

As soon as I get a job, I'm going to order one of these toys from Bananahobby. They look great!

I'll make a review by then (hopefully).

Free time

I don't remember if I already mentioned that I am currently unemployed but I am. And therefore, I have a lot of free time, which is good.

I have been using some of it on useless thing like playing Team Fortress 2 and replaying Mass effect 2. But I also spent much time working on my math again thanks to Khan Academy. This is a seriously great website. I read somewhere that they recently got a nice sum of money from Google, which is very good indeed.
I also spent much time reading. I started with the "God Delusion" from Dawkins, then "Atlas Shrugged" from Rand, "The hobbit" and" the Lord of the Rings" from Tolkien, "East of Eden" from Steinbeck and I just started "The Blind Watchmaker" from Dawkins.
That's a pretty good list overall I think. And I had my share of fantasy literature for years. I really like Richard Dawkins, really a smart guy. Him and Neil Degrasse Tyson are individuals I look up to.

Duckduckgo

Tired of Google efforts to track and bubble me with their search engine and news, I've started to use duckduckgo as my default SE.
Is it as good as Google? No. Not yet at least, and I still get back to Google for some of my searches but I support the facts that there's no tracking, nor bubbling.

I'm still using their email and blog for now, I know... But I'm changing things slowly.

Once in a while

As pointed out by Mish, once in a while Alan Greenspan cuts the BS and says something that makes sense:

“The euro is breaking down and the process of its breaking down is creating very considerable difficulties in the European banking system.”

and

“Gold, unlike all other commodities, is a currency. And the major thrust in the demand for gold is not for jewelry. It’s not for anything other than an escape from what is perceived to be a fiat money system, paper money, that seems to be deteriorating.”

This guy knew very well the mess he was creating back then. Anyway, that's also why I wouldn't mind finding a job outside the eurozone. Getting paid in something else than Euro sounds really good to me at this time.

Recruiter

So I was right about the recruiter, he has a job opportunity with the direct competitor of my previous employer. I'm not a perfect match with their required profile but they want to meet me anyway.
That's fine by me since it's close to my place. And in any case, it's good to practice my interview skills.

Skype interview

I'm currently looking for a job. At least July and August are nice months to have a lot of free time.

Anyway, a recruiter called me today, and from the job description I'm sure it's for the direct competitor of my previous employee.

We're having a discussion on Skype tomorrow. He sounded like a nice guy. That should be interesting.

Seti@home

It's working fine. That was very easy to install.

I'm now helping with the search for aliens... and a quote from Hawkins comes to my mind:
"We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."
A bit misanthropic, but it's worth thinking about it.

LHC@home 2.0

I wanted to participate in LHC@home 2.0, so I installed VirtualBox and BOINC as explained on the website.
Sadly, the project is so popular that it doesn't accept new members for now. I would have seen it earlier if I had taken the time to read their latest news entry... Oh well.

Since I had the software installed I joined Seti@home and my PC shall be looking for aliens during its spare time. That is until the LHC project accepts newcomers again.

It didn't start any job yet. I'll make an update post later I guess.

Yay!! Another attempt at blogging.

Let's hope this blog lives longer than its 4 predecessors. Around 50 posts will be the mark to beat.
